Jean Michel Folon was a Belgian artist who produced several posters mainly for humanitarian causes but also for theatre, opera and cinema events. He excelled in many forms of arts including lithographs, serigraphs, etchings, posters, paintings, illustrations and sculptures. He designed logos and advertising for Apple, Cannes Film Festival and others.

Folon seemed fascinated by the embryonic Macintosh; after being demoed MacSketch, he could barely be retrained from taking over the mouse for himself. After experimenting for a few minutes, he found a pen size that he liked, cleared the screen and started drawing in his inimitable style. He quickly sketched a cartoon featuring a man holding a gigantic Apple on his outstretched arm, with a bite taken out of it in the same place as the Apple logo. The man’s mouth was wide open, mimicking the hole in the apple.

His works appear in many magazines such as Time, Fortune, New Yorker, and in illustrated books by Franz Kafka, Ray Bradbury, Albert Camus, H.G. Wells, and many more.

Jean-Michel Folon died in Monaco on 20th October 2005 at the age of 71.
