Jon Carsman was a realist painter and printmaker. He made a reputation for his dramatically colourful images of familiar suburban streets, Victorian architecture, gardens, and scenic country roads.
 
Influenced by Edward Hopper, Charles Demuth, and Charles Burchfield, among others, Carsman’s paintings, screen-prints, and watercolours balance strong contrasts of light and shadow, photographic naturalism, and intense colours.
